Every once in a while, your subconscious might hand you a dream so vivid that you wake up feeling like you’ve just been handed a clear reflection of your waking life, and last night was definitely one of those nights for me.

I found myself in what felt like a video game simulation—navigating through the home of Saruman from The Lord of the Rings. If you know the lore of the series, Saruman’s a character who locked himself away in a cold, rigid tower, detaching from his heart to try and control his environment through logic and exterior walls. After breaking into this fortress, I saw myself performing some serious parkour moves, weaving through falling ice and frozen structures. But the lower I descended into the threshold, the warmer it became, and the ice began to melt.

Sweeping through this maze with me was a masculine presence—a shadow I couldn’t see, but a weight I continuously felt tracking my every move.

As a Virgo rising with Monday’s Scorpio New Moon on the horizon, my first instinct was to look at this dream through a self-reflective lens, wondering if I was the one building a cold fortress or emotionally freezing out my progress. Scorpio rules my third house, an area of the chart that governs our immediate surroundings, the daily data we process, and the mental chatter running through our heads. So a New Moon landing there is acting as a psychological black hole for my thoughts, causing me to dissect my conversations, replay interactions, and instinctively blame my own mindset first.

Because Scorpio operates in the dark, its energy sometimes tricks me into thinking that the underlying tension I feel in my environment must be a secret flaw in my own armor that I'm failing to see. But after pulling cards to get to the bottom of my dream, the tarot offered me a completely different perspective.

Bypassing my own psyche, a truth was being revealed: sometimes, I’m not dreaming about my own psychological blocks; I’m dreaming about the frozen fortresses of the people around me.
